Urs Müller-Plantenberg, born 1937 in Marienburg, formerly West Prussia, was research associate at the Latin American institute of the Freie Universität Berlin, from 1971 until 2002, as well as guest lecturer in Chile and Bielefeld. In 1973 he co-founded the Chile-Nachrichten, in 1974 the research and documentation center Chile-Latin America (FDCL); from 1978 on he worked as editor at the Lateinamerika Nachrichten. In 1981 he habilated in sociology at the FU Berlin. After his retirement from the FU he became proffesor of sociology at the Centrum Studiów Latynoamerykanskich (CESLA, Center of Latin American studies) of the University of Warschau (2004-2007). Müller-Plantenberg has published several publications on the politics and sociology of Latin America.
