a dream is \u2014 really<\/strong><\/p>\n

It is.<\/p>\n

A dream – is
\na romantic’s sanctuary or entanglement
\nit is something in your throat – with fleeces
\nsometimes, it is the fishbone stuck between your tonsils and your windpipes
\nsometimes, it is the uncle whose body remains unmoved
\n– from years of misery<\/p>\n

It is
\ncoffee beans with legs high enough, to stand
\nthey dance, shingle, and collapse to the side
\nof a visitor\u2019s preference<\/p>\n

It is.
\nAt the entrance of my grandmother’s house,
\nthere are door and window ways laced
\n& curtained with coffee and cocoa beans
\nshua. shua. shua. they cascade in & out of consciousness<\/p>\n

The point is
\nhere, things shoot upwards, or sideways, or back and forth
\nthey sprout from things that aren\u2019t & then swoosh
\n– life restores itself, again<\/p>\n

That is,
\nof course – a flower returns for a spring visit, always
\n& when it rears its bud from behind a mausoleum,
\nit declares itself a living and breathing thing with a body of its own
\n– a body that dreams of its children, its siblings, and its motherlands
\nwhen it beseeches on its knees, the sun and other elements respond
\nso, its body inclines toward them<\/p>\n

A dream is
\nwhen our bodies lean into something; a prayer, a bowl
\nof Pepper or Achu soup, a gossip, a story that glorifies our ancestor’s names<\/p>\n

A dream is
\na mouth that comes to you in respite, with tidings
\n& it knows
\nwhen you come to the end of something, new doorways await your arrival<\/p>\n

Dreams are
\n& of something, they are stewards
\n& to be, they understand, profoundly
\n& in bodies, they make & find some kind of haven
\n& in bodies, they become nations wholly with epicenters for validities<\/p>\n

Some dreams my body harbors are;
\ni<\/em> want to retire early
\ni<\/em> want the dignity of a soft landing
\ni<\/em> want to be able to afford care for an ailing parent
\nmaybe someday i will be able to set up something for my grandmother, too?
\nshe lives on another continent with no retirement funds<\/p>\n

When a dream is
\nit grows to become a thing with an appellation
\nit evolves into a thing of the flesh
\nwith fleeces that live in an optimist’s mouth<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
