I don\u2019t know when
\nit began. It happened without
\nany warning. With everything
\nthe same, only different. It doesn\u2019t matter
\nif you look to the horizon
\nor the next corner;
\nyou discover men and women
\ntrying to impress
\none another, here and there
\nmaybe a dog. The light
\nhesitates barely perceptibly
\nbefore touching and
\nuniting me with the others.
\nThe ground at my feet
\nsways differently,
\nwhen I part the water, it disintegrates
\ninto a thousand droplets. I never
\nthought I would ever find myself
\nhere. Where so many have been
\nbefore me. I don\u2019t even know
\nmost of them. A few have swept the rubbish
\naway, making room for
\nnew habits and successes,
\nwhile others have changed nothing.
\nJust marched in their own direction,
\nonly now with their lips compressed tight.
\nI probably missed
\nthe right exit. Or else the right exit
\njust isn\u2019t meant for some people.
\nIn that case, I tell myself,
\nclose your eyes and have a good look around.
\nInhale and mix in some air.
\nThink of your cares and then think them away.
\nYour accomplishments are modest,
\nstretched out at your back
\nlike a lazy dog. You can\u2019t
\ncount on them now.
\nIf something goes wrong,
\nyou\u2019ll have to catch your balance
\nsome other way.
\nThe sky has calmed down
\nand climbed into its bed.
\nLook how it rests,
\ncold-bloodedly creeping closer and closer.
\nSoon it will open its eyes again,
\nbend a leg and set foot on the ground,
\nas if it couldn\u2019t care less.
\nThat\u2019s where the border will be. People will be
\nthere. And you\u2019ll always be there,
\nonly here.<\/p>\n
