Dagmar Yu-Dembski was born in Berlin as the daughter of a German-Chinese marriage. Studied journalism, art history and Chinese studies at the Free University of Berlin. Her teaching, research, and journalism focuses on German-Chinese relations and Chinese cultural history. She has been editor and chief editor of the quarterly magazine “das neue China” since 1990 and has published numerous texts on the topic of Chinese communities in Germany. Since 2006, she has been managing director of the Confucius Institute at the FU Berlin, responsible for cultural affairs.
