Linda Gabriel was born in 1985 in Zimbabwe. She defines herself as a „spoken word artist“. Bilingual, her linguistic versatility is forged into brilliant poems written in either English or Shona, depending on which language effectively expresses what issue. She started performing poetry in high school and has since participated in major literary events in Zimbabwe, the rest of southern Africa and Europe. Mostly her work celebrates womanhood and its challenges. She uses the stage to tell untold stories and address taboo matters. Gabriel is one of the few female members of the House of Hunger Poetry Slam in Zimbabwe, which takes place in Harare and Johannesburg monthly. Regularly, she participates in the Harare International Festival of Arts HIFA and is co-founder of Sistaz Open Mic, the platform for aspiring female artists. Currently, she coordinates the Spoken Word Project, an initiative by the Goethe Institut of Johannesburg. In Berlin, Gabriel offers workshops for creative writing to schools and almost every age group.
