He resided in Belgrade until the early nineties, when\u00a0he left the country in protest of the Milo\u0161evi\u0107 regime. \u0106osi\u0107 has published\u00a0more than 30 novels, short story collections\u00a0and essays. He is one of the few remaining authors who refers to his language as Serbo-Croatian, rejecting any form of national alignment of literature. His best known novel is\u00a0&#8220;Die Rolle meiner Familie in der Weltrevolution&#8221; (my family&#8217;s role in the world revolution), <em>NIN-Preis<\/em> 1969, published in German in\u00a01994, which has been adapted for the stage. Even though the novel\u00a0gained a\u00a0cult following and was awarded multiple prizes, \u0106osi\u0107 was black-listed, and prohibited from publishing for years to follow, due to the\u00a0satirical, carnevalesque description of the socialist society. In the sixties\u00a0he translated and staged the\u00a0musical &#8220;Hair&#8221;, which premiered in Belgrade only one year after it did on\u00a0Broadway. After leaving\u00a0Belgrade, his primary focus were essays, such as the &#8220;Tagebuch eines Heimatlosen&#8221; (diary of a migrant), 1993, which is considered one of the most renowned post-war pieces of\u00a0the region. Without succumbing to nostalgic feelings for Zagreb or Belgrad (that he now calls a private open air museum), Bora \u0106osi\u0107 has spent the last two decades living in Berlin and Rovinj in Istria. \u0106osi\u0107 was awarded the <em>Leipziger Buchpreis zur Europ\u00e4ischen Verst\u00e4ndigung<\/em>, the\u00a0international <em>Albatros Literature Prize <\/em>as well\u00a0as\u00a0the international <em>Stefan-Heym-Prize<\/em>\u00a0in 2011.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bibliography\">Wie unsere Klaviere repariert wurden.
