He completed his master&#8217;s degree in Slavic languages \u200b\u200band sociology at the HU. In March 2021, he defended his doctoral thesis as part of the project &#8220;Tracing patterns of contact and change: Philological vs. computational approaches to the handwritings of an 18th-century migrant community in Berlin&#8221; of the Fraunhofer IPK and the HU. The project was financed by the Volkswagen Foundation. After working in the Collaborative Research Center &#8220;Register&#8221; at the HU researching language styles(=registers) and in the MultiHTR project for recognizing handwritten texts at the University of Freiburg, Aleksej is researching the interrelationship of the Celtic, Germanic, and Slavic languages \u200b\u200bin a cooperation project between the University of Oxford and the HU since April 2021. Since 2019 he is exploring the language and identity in German rap, focusing on Slavic languages \u200b\u200bas part of his habilitation. In addition to his scientific work, Aleksej contributes to the cultural life of Berlin with his active participation in various events (Osteuropa Tage Berlin, Red Square Festival, etc.). In 2016 he co-founded the online journal osTraum together with Maria Gerasimova.
