Born in 1963 in Xuzhou in East China’s Jiangsu Province, Xi Chuan has become one of the leading figures in modern Chinese poetry since the 1980s. Known for blending tendencies of the Western avant-garde with a Chinese writing tradition, his contributions to the modern prose poem are staples of the form in his homeland. Among other honors, he was awarded mainland China’s most prestigious literary prize, the Lu Xun Prize, in 2001. Today, he teaches classical Chinese literature at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
