Anne-Christin Klotz grew up in the Berlin suburbs and now lives in Berlin and Jerusalem, where she has been researching and teaching at Hebrew University since 2022. Shaken up by early experiences with neo-Nazi violence in East Germany, she became active in left-wing youth organizations as a teenager and thus increasingly engaged with the history of National Socialism and the Holocaust as well as with the question of what it means to be German today. This critical examination of German and her own history eventually took her to Poland, where she worked at the Stutthof Memorial (Sztutowo) and from there on to study History and Eastern European Studies at the Free University of Berlin. She conducted research at the University of California, Berkeley and was a research assistant at the Selma Stern Center for Jewish Studies Berlin-Brandenburg. Her current work focuses on the Holocaust in Eastern Europe, global Yiddish culture, and Jewish and non-Jewish anti-fascism. Her doctoral thesis was published in 2022 under the title “Gemeinsam gegen Deutschland. The Yiddish Press of Warsaw and its Struggle against National Socialist Germany (1930-1941)” and has received several international awards. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
She is the winner of the Irma Rosenberg Prize in Research into the History of National Socialism 2022 (Vienna) and the Marko Feingold Prize in Jewish Studies 2022 (Salzburg). She was also one of the finalists for the Yad Vashem Book Prize 2023. In addition to her research, she is involved in various other projects. For example, she was co-founder of Zinefest Berlin and co-editor of the brochure “From Kiev with Love. Queer Lifeworlds in Ukraine” (2013). She has also written several zines in which she artistically explores the diversity of human relationships. Currently, she is particularly committed to improving the working conditions of young scientists and was, among other things, president of the postdoctoral union at UC Berkeley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
