He studied biology, then literary writing. He has published five novels, most recently \u201cDer traurige Gast\u201d (2019) and \u201cReise nach Maine\u201d (2021). His volume of poetry entitled \u201cGebete f\u00fcr meine Vorfahren\u201d (\u201cPrayers for my ancestors\u201d) was published in 2022 and the essay collection \u201c\u00dcber allem ein weit Himmel &#8211; Nachrichten aus Europa\u201d (\u201cAbove all, a wide sky &#8211; news from Europe\u201d) in 2024. He was recently awarded the European Union Prize for Literature and the Fontane Literature Prize of the city of Neuruppin and the state of Brandenburg for his books.
