Showghi spent his childhood in the Czech Republic, Germany and eventually Iran. In 1978 he returned to Germany where he studied medicine at the University of Erlangen-N\u00fcrnberg. He has lived in Hamburg since 1989 where he works as a psychiatrist.\u00a0Showghi is the author of several prose pieces and poems in German, and translates from Farsi. The 2014 translation of his poetry collection \u201cEnd of the City Map, Burning Deck\u201d by Rosmarie Waldrop was on the US shortlist for\u00a0<em>Best Translated Book Award 2015<\/em>.\u00a0Showghi is a member of the PEN center in Germany.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bibliography\">Die Sekunde ist eine bewohnbare Provinz.
