Her writing is mostly shaped by the experiences of childhood family dysfunction and alcoholism, as well as the loss of her boyfriend.<br>She has been a vocal advocate for mental health awareness and the connection between substance abuse and mental illness, and has spoken publicly about these issues in various magazines.
