He had previously worked as a lawyer and now works as a writer and satirist. Two of his works, the short story \u201cBayan Layi\u201c (2013) and his debut novel \u201cBorn on a Tuesday\u201d (2015) were nominated for the <em>Caine Prize for Writing\u00a0<\/em>which helped endear him to the public eye. Further publications of the novel; in Great Britain, the US (both 2016), Germany (2017) and France (2018), and translations into German and French would follow. The novel sheds light on Islamist radicalization in northern Nigeria. Furthermore, John pens essays about pastoralism and gender non-conformism, as well as political satires that are published in the <em>Sunday Trust<\/em>. Betty Trask Award winner 2017. His reading series <em>Elnathan\u2019s #BOAT<\/em>, which he hosts four times a year, presents African literature in Berlin. In 2017, it took place at the Buchhandlung am Moritzplatz, but has since moved to the Literaturhaus Berlin.<\/p>\n<p class=\"bibliography\">Bayan Layi. Short story.
