Jean D’Am\u00e9rique is the rising star of Haitian literature. A multi-award winning poet, playwright and rapper based in Paris, his work focuses on political violence and the lives of marginalised groups. His debut novel ‘Soleil \u00e0 coudre’ was published in France in 2021 and won the Prix Dubreuil du premier roman de la SGDL and the Prix Montluc R\u00e9sistance et Libert\u00e9. The novel has now been translated into German by Rike Bolte<\/a> and published by Litradukt under the title ‘Zerrissene Sonne<\/strong>‘.
Jean D’Am\u00e9rique tells the story of a childhood that was not meant to be, in a condensed language that is sometimes incredibly poetic and tender, sometimes short and brutal. As the translator Rike Bolte writes in her preface: “The young T\u00eate F\u00eal\u00e9e – roughly translated as ‘spinner’ or ‘muddle-head’ – lives under the sun, never knowing whether she will make it to the dawn and beyond after an exhausting day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
