What languages does Berlin write in? Together with the Berlin spricht!<\/em> project run by the General Linguistics Working Group at the Institute for German Language and Linguistics at Humboldt University in Berlin and two literary guests, we explore the current city map of linguistic diversity in Berlin. The occasion is International Mother Language Day<\/em>, a commemorative day proclaimed by UNESCO to \u201cpromote linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism\u201d, which has been celebrated annually on February 21 since 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A special literary evening in German\u2014with sections in Galician, English and Nepali (and translations).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elisabeth Verhoeven<\/a><\/strong> presents the results of the Berlin spricht!<\/em> language research project.

Ma<\/a>rtin Jankowski<\/a><\/strong> talks to Mara Mah\u00eda<\/a><\/strong> (author, Spain\/Berlin) about Galician and I<\/strong><\/a>oanna Gatzigianni<\/a><\/strong> reads her German translation of a prose text by Mara Mah\u00eda. Then follows a talk with Nishan Dhakal<\/a><\/strong> (author, Nepal\/Berlin) about Nepali, and Nico Lehmann<\/a><\/strong> reads the German translation by Ri<\/a>tu Kuluju<\/a><\/strong> of a short story by Nishan Dhakal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
