Press Release, 20.09.2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Press Release<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Berlin, 20.09.2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>STADTSPRACHEN \u2013 Festival of Berlin\u2019s international literatures <\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>28th October until 6th November 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>New literature festival presents multilingual, contemporary literature from Berlin<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>More than 80 authors, translators and literature enthusiasts from 36 countries, 30 events in 10 days: From the 28. Oktober until the 6. November 2016 <strong>STADTSPRACHEN \u2013 festival of Berlin\u2019s international literatures<\/strong> premiers. With actions, performances, workshops and presentations in more than 30 different languages the literature festival will make the multilingual contemporary Berlin literature visible and audible for the first time. STADTSPRACHEN shines a spotlight on Berlin\u2019s living authors, who write in a language other than German: Authors und poets from all over the world will introduce themselves, start conversations and present their literary perspectives on current affairs. Innovative and unusual literature formats invite intercultural exchange.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore than 120 different languages are spoken in Berlin, several international authors have made the capital their home. The festival offers these artists, some of whom are considered stars in their respective literary scenes, a platform. It is of particular concern to us, to create public awareness of the multi-linguality of Berlin\u2019s contemporary literature, in addition to illuminating its influence on the national literary scene and its international ties and impacts\u201c, says Martin Jankowski, who founded the festival along with other members of the Netzwerks Freie Literaturszene Berlin e.V. (Network of the Free Literary scene in Berlin).<\/p>\n<p>The festival opens on October 28th\u2013 with opening remarks by this year\u2019s Ingeborg-Bachmann-award winner <strong>Sharon Dodua Otoo<\/strong>, succeeded by a reading from the Berlin Legend of Serbo-Croatian literature Bora \u0106osi\u0107 as well as a poetry performance by Hungarian poet Kinga T\u00f3th. Furthermore events are planned with: Esther Andradi (Argentina), Steve Mekoudja (Cameroon), Julia Kissina (Ukraine), Alan Mills (Guatemala), Asal Dardan (Iran), Maroula Blades (UK), Iunona Guruli (Georgia), Ricardo Domeneck (Brazil), Assaf Alassaf (Syria), Kevin Shih-Hung Chen (Taiwan), Dmitri Dragilew (Latvia), Th\u1ebf D\u1e7bng (Vietnam), Haukur M\u00e1r Helgason (Iceland), Linda Gabriel (Zimbabwe), G\u00f6ksu Kunak (Turkey), John Holten (Ireland), Marie-Pascal Hardy (Canada), Wilfried N\u2019Sond\u00e9 (Democratic Republic of Congo), Cia Rinne (Sweden\/Finland), Ewa Maria Slaska (Poland), Tomomi Adachi (Japan), Jayr\u00f4me C. Robinet (France), Najem Wali (Iraq), Andrea Scrima (USA), Tzveta Sofronjewa (Bulgaria), Galina Rymbu (Russia), Rajvinder Singh (India) among several others. Translators, editors and fellow members from the cultural industry will get their say.<\/p>\n<p>As 90% of guest authors are international, it is safe to assume that the STADTSPRACHEN is the most international literature festival Berlin has hosted. Literature initiatives of the Network of the Free Literary scene in Berlin will work together for the first time at the multilingual Berlin literature festival STADTSPRACHEN, and have each contributed their specific ideas, contacts and event formats. Hence the event venues lie all over Berlin \u2013 a reflection of the vibrant diversity of the free literary scene of the city.<\/p>\n<p>STADTSPRACHEN is an initiative of alba. Lateinamerika lesen e.V., ausland, Berliner Literarische Aktion, KOOK e.V., La mer gel\u00e9e, Latinale, Lettr\u00e9tage, mikrotext, SAND und The Reader Berlin.
