For the first time we explicitly drew Berlin\u2019s writers, who don\u2019t compose their texts in German, into the focus of the cultural public and with actions, performances, workshops and presentations in more than 30 different languages over ten days render the multilingual, contemporary literature of the city visible and audible. In a hitherto unparalleled cooperation, the most diverse actors of Berlins literary scene were active with us among others: <a href=\"http:\/\/stadtsprachen.de\/location\/alba\/\"><em>alba. <\/em><em>Lateinamerika lesen e.V.<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/stadtsprachen.de\/location\/ausland-2\/\"><em>ausland<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/stadtsprachen.de\/location\/kook-e-v\/\"><em>kook e.V.<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/stadtsprachen.de\/location\/la-mer-gelee\/\"><em>La mer gel\u00e9e<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/stadtsprachen.de\/location\/latinale\/\"><em>Latinale<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/stadtsprachen.de\/location\/lettretage-2\/\"><em>Lettr\u00e9tage<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/stadtsprachen.de\/location\/mikrotext\/\"><em>mikrotext<\/em><\/a><em>,\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/stadtsprachen.de\/location\/sand\/\"><em>SAND<\/em><\/a>\u00a0und\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stadtsprachen.de\/location\/the-reader-berlin\/\"><em>The Reader Berlin<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em>\u00a0With more than 100 Berliner authors, translators und cultural creators spanning 42 different languages, we celebrated ten days together, in the most diverse of ways, the multilingualism of Berlins contemporary literature.<\/p>\n<p>Today, a year later, we can only be pleased with the grand success of this festival and its persistent effects: All of the big literary houses and several festivals of the city (and occasionally beyond) were made aware of the STADTSPRACHEN-authors and meanwhile present them frequently in their programs. Translations, book projects and invitations to projects and readings were the lasting consequences of our project for many participants. A diverse network formed and steadily grows, which links Berlins literary scene in a new way through mutual regard, solidarity and cooperation. The attention brought to the contemporary, multilingual literature of Berlin has exceeded all expectations. With support of the Berliner Senat, the city-wide reading series<strong> PARATAXE \u2013 die internationalen Literaturszenen Berlins<\/strong> has arisen from the one-time festival, with which we still present the new non-German writers of Berlin at alternating locations and with an ever-expanding circle of partners. With our project as paragon, a thematically similar project was held at the London Book fair and at LCB our symposium for the Latin-American literatures of Berlin turned into an enthusiastic \u201calumni reunion\u201d of authors and experts. In June Basel hosted our Afroberlin \u201cdivision\u201d as idea export; with our partners from the Osteuropatagen we travelled last weekend to Stettin und at the beginning of November there will be a complete PARATAXE-reading at the Pisa Book fair before we head into the end of November with the symposium for east European literature in Berlin at LCB. Newly translated non-German authors found an eager audience at <em>Lettr\u00e9tage<\/em>,\u00a0<em>English Theatre Berlin<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Panda Theater<\/em>,\u00a0<em>Maschinenhaus<\/em>,\u00a0<em>ausland<\/em>\u00a0and\u00a0<em>Brotfabrik<\/em>, and numerous installments are in the works. In fall the Berliner Senat, not unimpressed by the developments, announced for the first time writers grants exclusively for non-German Authors of Berlin.<\/p>\n<p>Since January 2017 our <strong><em>stadtsprachen magazine, <\/em><\/strong>realized unfortunately without a budget so far, ensures that all our discoveries, contacts and literary treasures aren\u2019t lost, rather made permanently accessible to the public. Our editors <a href=\"http:\/\/stadtsprachen.de\/en\/author\/joey-bahlsen\/\">Joey Bahlsen<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/stadtsprachen.de\/en\/author\/birger-hoyer\/\">Birger Hoyer<\/a> dedicatetly take care of the multilingual biographies for all participating Authors, translators, moderators, and experts whose circles happily grow weekly\u00a0\u2013 Berlin\u2019s literary scenes are an inexhaustible fountain of creativity \u2013 they take care of professional translations and the publication of literary contributions in all thinkable languages. This innovative Online magazine of Berlins contemporary literature contains information and links to 121 Authors, 40 translators as well as 127 literary essays, stories and poem cycles in 15 different languages (as of issue #3).
