Aleppo, wirst Du der Zehntausenden Trauerlied h\u00f6ren<\/p>\n

hier in Berlin, zu Deutschland, auf dem Kontinent Europa?<\/p>\n

Nein, das ist keine Feuerwerksrakete, die die Himmel des arabischen Fr\u00fchlings<\/p>\n

entz\u00fcndet,\u201d<\/p>\n

In this poem that I wrote in Berlin one can hear the voice of the Syrian refugees requesting to enter to the German and European culture. There are many voices in Germany that refuse to listen to these voices. There are also Islamophobic voices in Germany. There are afraid from the idea of integration in Germany. But this new movement of exile and refugee from the Middle East is also an opportunity to create a new hybrid that melts down both culture into one. I will explain.<\/span><\/p>\n

The different categories of Immigration, exile, emigration, and life between several cultures raises many questions about the willingness of the German society to incorporate new elements into it. These questions are particularly relevant to the lives of Israelis, Palestinians, Syrian and other migrants from the Arab countries, who, due to a worsening political and social situation, finding themselves entering the life cycle of Berlin and Germany. <\/span><\/p>\n

Berlin is a unique city; it seems to have a special liberal openness to people with a background of immigration. Actually, Berlin does not require \u2013 the Ausl\u00e4nder – to fully assimilate. It allows the foreign cultures within it to exist within a wider circle of a city, which is like a state within Germany. <\/span><\/p>\n

Now in Berlin, I have published a book, which I called “Baghdad Haifa Berlin”, the three cities which generate my identity. Baghdad where my mother was born, Haifa where I was born and Berlin where my child was born. Only in Berlin, I could meet Iraqis, who are my age, but grew up as refugees in Germany or children of refugee families from the first or second Iraq war. This encounter gave birth to the impossible, the ability of the Jew and the Muslim to re-connect to Iraq from a far. The entering of the Arab and the Jew inside of Berlin\u2019s culture and life could lead to a re-connection into the past, by pass the conflicts of the present and envision a new future for the Middle East. <\/span><\/p>\n

Such an experience can bridge racial, ethnic, religious, and national divisions in the Middle East. This conversation can lead to producing a vision in which the city of Berlin and its culture is the fertile land where new seeds could grow.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
